Question:

Is it correct to say that if a book/publication/manuscript has a passage that parallels/is in harmony with a verse from the Bible, that that passage is also God's word?

Example: the Koran and the Bible. There are many verses which say pretty much the same thing; but are those verses in the Koran also God's word?

1st Thessalonians 5:21 was referenced in chapel this morning redarding this question: "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." -KJV Hold fast as gospel these passages from other books?

Hey Nate,

My Bible has a cross-reference for that word "prove." I John 4:1 - "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but *test* the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT! Many false religions, cults, and pseudo-Christian cults have writings that sound very similar to the Bible in places, but they are way off when taken as a whole.

Good job, Nate. Hold fast to that which is good!

Love you.

As for what is God's Word, we must say with Scripture that God's Word come back to Him true. This means that the words on any given page are not the Word, the real Word lives within our hearts, illumined by the Holy Spirit. Our puny English translations aren't inspired; even the Greek and Hebrew aren't enough: we must have God's Spirit. As for what to call "good" passages of the Koran, remember the end of Revelation about adding and subtracting from the Bible. What that means here: unless it's THE BIBLE, with nothing added (like the Apocrypha or Book of Mormon), IT'S CRAP! (pardon my vulgarity!).

I would suggest that you bare in mind that the counterfit often parallels the truth for a time. the results of the counterfit are often what really tells it for truth or error. There are belief systems that have survived for thousands of years that have portions of them that sound very close to the Bible but the question remains, "Are they bringing their believers closer to the one true God and the character traits that we should be living out as Christians?" If not then you can rest assured that they are counterfit.
